Sellers was born at Radcliffe, Lancashire, on 3 June 1859, the son of Dr William Sellers of Radcliffe. He was educated at Manchester Grammar School and the University of London before studying medicine at Edinburgh, where he held a distinguished academic record. Sellers was a successful general practitioner in Radcliffe from 1881 to 1900 (for some time with his father and also with his brother, Arthur Seller (see above)) and from 1883 to 1900 was medical officer of health for Radcliffe. In 1900 he retired from medical practice and became Barrister-at-Law with chambers in Manchester. Radcliffe was later appointed coroner for the City of Manchester and Professor of Medical Jurisprudence at the University of Manchester. He died in August 1918.
