Stephen was house surgeon at MRI and civil medical officer to Nell Lane Military Hospital, Manchester, before being appointed senior RMO to Crumpsall Hospital and medical officer for venereal diseases in Manchester. Stephen was later in practice in Todmorden with his [brother John Stephen] (see above).
