Hampson Woodcock was the son of Samuel Woodcock. He was educated at Owens College Manchester and qualified in 1899. He later took the MD from Manchester in 1918 for a thesis on the psychological effects of war service in tropical climates. He was a former consulting physician at Hulme Dispensary Manchester, later worked as a medical adviser for the Ministry of Pensions in London.
