Stott was born on 8 December 1799 and was educated in Bradford. He began his medical studies in Manchester under Joseph Jordan, firstly at Jordan's house, and later at the Mount Street School. Stott was a general practitioner in Manchester. In 1831, along with Dr Alexander, Stott was one of the founders of the Manchester General Dispensary for Diseases of Children and became consulting surgeon. He was also demonstrator in anatomy with Jordan at Mount Street and at Pine Street. Stott was surgeon to the New Bailey Prison and held an appointments under the Poor-Law. In 1862 he retired to Disley in Cheshire. He died on 8 April 1878.
