Administrative / Biographical History

Williams gained his medical education at the University of St. Andrews, qualifying in 1949 and gaining his MD in 1957. He held junior appointments in Dundee and Newcastle before coming to Manchester in 1954 as assistant lecturer in pathology, later promoted to lecturer and senior lecturer. Williams was a research fellow in Vermont and Seattle, USA, returning to Manchester in 1966 as reader in pathology and honorary consultant pathologist at MRI. Williams was a committee member of the Pathological Society and was on the executive committee of the Renal Association. He was president of the pathological section of Manchester Medical Society in 1974.
