Freeman studied at the Royal Colleges and University in Edinburgh. He was a general practitioner in Levenshulme, Manchester for nearly forty years. During this time he was also divisional police surgeon and wrote many papers on drink driving. Freeman was foundation secretary of the North West College of General Practitioners in 1953 and later chairman and provost of the Royal College of General Practitioners. Freeman was also a member of Manchester Medical Society , Manchester Medico-Ethical Association and was chairman of the Manchester Division of the BMA. In 1963 Freeman was appointed OBE. He died on 2 November 1976 aged seventy two.
