Administrative / Biographical History

Dyson was educated at Owens College Manchester and took his medical degree in 1896. He originally worked as a general practitioner in Shropshire, but in 1907 studied dermatology at Vienna, and on his return set up as a dermatologist in Manchester. He also worked as a medical officer at Manchester Skin Hospital. In 1910 he was awarded a MD with gold medal for a thesis on cutaneous pigmentation. In 1913 he received an honorary appointment at the Skin Hospital. Later he held appointments at Salford Royal Hospital and MRI, and was the Infirmary's first dedicated dermatologist. He was a founder of the Manchester Dermatological Society and a past president of the British Dermatological Association. He was the father of William Speirs Dixon.
