Chorley was a graduate of Leyden University where he obtained his degree of MD in 1781. He was elected to MRI staff in March 1784 and resigned in December of the same year. He was a member of Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society. Chorley was one of four physicians to investigated an outbreak of malignant fever originating in the cotton mills at Radcliffe. After leaving Manchester, Chorley moved to Doncaster where he became physician to the Dispensary and in 1821 was Mayor of Doncaster.
