Studied at Victoria University of Manchester. House physician and resident clinical pathologist at MRI. assistant tuberculosis officer City of Manchester. Then became tuberculosis officer for County Borough of Sunderland and for Northumberland County Council. Was honorary lieutenant colonel of the RAMC before becoming Chest Physician for Newcastle-on-Tyne Regional Hospital Board. Beal was a member of Manchester Medical Society , the Tuberculosis Association and a fellow of the Society of Medical Officers of Health.
