Fairclough undertook his medical training at Owens College Manchester and at London and Dublin. He was anaesthetist at the Victoria Dental Hospital Manchester and honorary surgeon to Chorlton and Hulme Dispensaries in Manchester. Fairclough retired to Buxton, Derbyshire.
