Greenwood received his medical education at the Victoria University of Manchester and was resident house surgeon at MRI. Greenwood was then assistant resident medical officer for Monsall and Crumpsall Hospitals in Manchester before being appointed consultant physician to Withington, Newholme and Wythenshawe Hospitals, South Manchester. Greenwood was also consultant physician to Cranford Lodge, Knutsford. He was a member of Manchester Medical Society . Greenwood was married to Jane Bowden Stubbs (see MMC/2/GreenwoodJB) in 1937.
