Briercliffe qualified MB ChB at Manchester in 1910, and took the DPH in 1912, a B.Sc in public health in 1913 and worked at the Public Health Laboratory, and an MD in 1936. He worked with the colonial medical service, and was and was a former medical adviser to the Comptroller for Development and Welfare in West Indies.
