Administrative / Biographical History

MA Aberdeen 1919, MB ChB 1922, MD 1933; DMRD Camb 1925; FFR 1937.

Gray received his medical education at Aberdeen. After qualifying, he worked for the RAF Medical Service where he began his experience of radiology. He then did postgraduate work in radiology at St George's Hospital London and the Brompton Hospital for Consumption and Diseases of the Chest. In 1925 Gray was appointed honorary radiologist to the Belgrave Hospital for Children and the next year to the Mildmay Hospital in London. In 1927 Gray came to Manchester as junior assistant medical officer to MRI. Gray later became senior assistant radiological officer at MRI before being appointed honorary consultant radiologist to Ancoats Hospital Manchester and then director of the x-ray department at MRI. He was a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and a member of the British Institute of Radiology.
