Case registers of Phyllis Scotney

Seven ms registers of cases, apparently continuous from January 1950 up to Phyllis Scotney's retirement (?) in October1971. The two larger case registers contain an inscription in the frontispiece stating "Personal" and labelling them Books 2 and 3 respectively. Book 1 appears to be missing. These two case registers list dates of expected and actual confinement; name, age and address of mother; number of previous confinements; sex and health of the child; condition of mother at date of last visit; name of any doctor called; and brief notes on delivery including delivery of placenta and membranes, and drugs administered. The five smaller registers list, in addition to the above, any antenatal care given; presentation of the child; birth weight; whether the mother is breast- or bottle-feeding; and a specific section asking the midwife to list drugs and the date and time of their administration. The second large register and first small register cover approximately the same dates and districts. The case registers are preceded by a letter from Phyllis Scotney's niece (14 May 2007) explaining her decision to donate them to the Royal College of Midwives following her aunt's death in January 2007.

Phyllis Scotney (fl. 1920-2007) lived and worked as a midwife in the Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire.
