Papers of Violet Lancett, 1947-1952

Scope and Content

Case book and case registers kept by Violet Lancett as a pupil midwife at the City Maternity Hospital, Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent (March - April 1948), while training at St Mary's Hospital and a village branch of the hospital at Prestbury, Manchester (April - August 1947) and in the community in the Hanley, Burslem and Tunstall districts of Stoke-on-Trent (March 1948 - January 1952) recording deliveries attended by her and presented for the Central Midwives Board examination, including social details of the mother, her pregnancy and labour, and the delivery outcome. Also with the registers is a black and white photograph of a group of uniformed nurses, possibly in Red Cross uniforms and unidentified.

Access Information

Restricted: although case notes are anonymised, an index at the end of the volumes provides names and addresses of mothers.
