Scope and Content

Scrapbook collated by Virginia Robotham, member of the RCM Commemorative Book Editorial Committee, as a complement to the official Commemorative Book to celebrate the RCM's centenary in 1981, including press releases, transcriptions of comments made by members of the RCM during the celebrations, letters from Margaret Thatcher, medical institutions, and RCM members attending the commemorative events, records of the publicity campaign - the Royal Mail postmark, leaflets, car stickers, invitations to the service of thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey (April 1981), photographs of the Queen Mother and RCM President, Dorothy Webster, at Westminster Abbey, of guests at the Royal Garden Party, Buckingham Palace (July 1981), of RCM staff at the headquarters in Mansfield Street, of the 99th Annual Meeting in London (July 1981), of the Reception at St James Palace attended by HM the Queen (July 1981), of the 19th International Congress of the International Confederation of Midwives held at Brighton (September 1981) including the installation of new ICM President, Margaret Peters by Anne Andrews, and the President's reception attended by Margaret Thatcher (December 1981), material relating to the 'Breath of Life' rose, the commemorative plate and other souvenirs, the centenary hymn, and related articles from national newspapers.
