Scope and Content

Ms register of cases, compiled by Claire Chandler (30 April 1956-17 March 1961), recording the births that she attended whilst practicing as a midwife in Winchester and Basingstoke, Hampshire and then in Luton and Dunstable, Bedfordshire, including details of the name, age and address of the patient, the date of booking, the date of expected delivery, the name of the doctor, whether the doctor was booked, whether the doctor was called in an emergency, whether the doctor was present at delivery, the number of previous labours and miscarriages, whether antenatal care was provided by a clinic, midwife or doctor, date of the midwives arrival or the patients admission to hospital, the presentation of the infant at birth, the birth weight and sex of the infant, the date of last visit of the midwife or discharge from hospital, the condition of the mother and child, whether the infant was breast fed, the drugs given and the time and date of administration, as well as any further remarks, such as whether forceps were used during the delivery.
