Scope and Content

Photocopy of a ts memoir, written by Lorraine Sandra Wright (circa. 1930-1990), detailing her early life growing up in the County Durham, her training at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London and her subsequent career as a nurse, also concerning her training to become a midwife and fellow pupil midwives at the Pembury Maternity Unit in East Sussex, the examinations she undertook and the regulations imposed on her by the Central Midwives Board (1964-1967), as well as the births that she attended once she was qualified, including how she dealt with patients that suffered complications during pregnancy and labour, providing an insight into how the experience of childbirth and the role of midwives changed during the late twentieth century, together with two scanned photographs, one of her in her uniform (1967) and another showing her with a patient and their infant (1990).

Lorraine Sandra Wright (1936-2007) was a midwife from County Durham, who trained at Pembury Maternity Unit in East Sussex in 1964.
