Records of the East Anglian Midwifery Teachers Group

Scope and Content

Two ms minute books of general and annual meetings of the East Anglican Midwifery Teachers Group (21 November 1947-31 May 1994), recording the talks given by various speakers and discussions that took place on obstetric matters, including local and national policies on childbirth. The first volume (21 November 1947-5 February 1972), contains minutes from the founding meeting. The second volume (29 April 1972-10 June 1993) includes further minutes of meetings, as well as two ts copies of the final meeting minutes and the Secretary's Report by Anne Crotty, dated 12 May 1994, explaining the reasons for disbanding the group, concerns over new structures in healthcare and the role of higher education in midwifery, together with an ms letter found inside the second volume, from Joan Davies and Anne Crotty to Julia Allison, General Secretary of the Royal College of Midwives (31 May 1994), outlining the decision to disband the group and donating the records to the RCM, also accompanied by ts instructions on office procedures for the Domiciliary Midwifery Service (undated but post-1955).
