Scope and Content

Papers relating to the training and career of Dorothea Mackrell (nee Gambrill) as a midwife, including case books submitted for the Central Midwives Board examination (1944-1945), case registers kept by her as midwife at St Monica's Nursing Home, Parkstone, Bournemouth (1946-1947) and as District Midwife, Hythe District, Hampshire (1946-1951, 1956-1970), certificates issued by the Central Midwives Board (1945), General Lying-In Hospital, Lambeth (1945) and Croydon General Hospital (1944), memoranda from Hampshire County Medical Officer, refresher course certificates issued by the Royal College of Midwives (1959 and 1964), and an album of photographs of babies delivered by her in Totton, Hampshire (1956-1967) presented to her by the mothers of Totton.
