Pupil case book of G. Hawksworth

This collection comprises a ms case book, containing notes, charts and graphs, completed by G. Hawksworth, pupil midwife at the City of London Lying-In Hospital (2 June-19 October 1919), recording the name, age, address, religion and pregnancy history of each patient, alongside the date they were admitted and discharged from hospital, as well as any important illnesses or complications during their current pregnancy, the progress of their subsequent labour, including their pelvic measurements, temperature and pulse, if there were any complications during the delivery, the nature of these complications, the position of the child on birth, the names of medical staff that were present at the birth, the sex of the child, the weight of the child, if the child was born alive or dead, any malformations of the child, the length and separation of the cord, the length of the child, the circumference of the child's head and the method of feeding the child, together with reports on the postnatal care provided on the ward in the days following the birth. Also accompanied by printed material on infant nutrition, maternity benefits and the role of the midwife in public heath (circa. 1940-1950), as well as ts lecture notes, relating to the role local and central government in administrating maternity services, social medicine and prevention and control of infectious disease, as well as a ts examination paper (circa. 1910-1920).

G. Hawksworth (fl. 1900-1920) was a pupil midwife at the City of London Lying-In Hospital in 1922.
