Administrative / Biographical History

The London Teachers Midwives Group was founded in 1934 in order to give midwife teachers an opportunity to discuss special problems, to consider matters relevant to the formulation of teaching policy and to keep up to date with new ideas and advise the Royal College of Midwives through representative on the Teachers Executive Committee.

At first the Group, consisting of a chairman and nine committee members, met on an adhoc and annual basis. However from 1941 onwards, annual meetings took place in September and general meetings were held monthly with the exception of July and August.
