Scope and Content

Ms pupil case book, containing very detailed notes, charts and tables, compiled by Dorothy Bailey, whilst training to become a midwife at the Bushey Maternity Hospital (3 May 1949 - 20 January 1950), together with a ms register of cases (20 October 1948-27 March 1949), listing the name, ages and address of each patient, the number of previous labours and miscarriages, the presentation of the infant on birth, date and hour of the birth, sex of child and whether the infant was born living or dead, full time or premature, name of doctor if called, if there were any complications during or after labour, date of the midwife’s last visit, condition of mother then, condition of child then and any remarks.

Dorothy Bailey (fl. 1930-2009) was a midwife who trained at Bushy Maternity Hospital between 1948 and 1948.
