Larmuth came to Manchester from Stockport in the 1870s and stayed with his uncle John Hamilton Larmouth (see above). Larmuth studied medicine at the Royal Manchester School of Medicine and Owens College Manchester, before working in Vienna as assistant pathologist to Dr Politzer. Larmuth was house surgeon at MRI before settling in Manchester as a surgeon specialising in diseases of the ear, nose and throat. Larmuth was later appointed to the honorary staff of Manchester Ear Hospital and was consulting aural surgeon to the Deaf and Dumb Institute, Manchester. It is believed that Larmuth took the first x-ray photographs in England, early in January 1906, for Professor Schuster. Larmuth died on 3 February 1941, aged 87.
