Leach was a medical pupil at MRI and Pine Street Medical School before practicing in Manchester and Oldham. Like his father, Abraham Leach (see above), he was district medical officer for Oldham Union. He was also honorary consulting surgeon to Oldham Infirmary and surgeon to Oldham police. Leach was a member of MMS.
