Larmuth studied medicine at Pine Street Medical School in Manchester before settling in general practice in Sale-Moor, Cheshire. Some time after the late 1870s, Larmuth moved to Guernsey, where he practised and then lived in retirement. Leopold Larmuth (see below) was his nephew. Larmuth died on 28 June 1912], there is a commemorative plaque at Manchester Crematorium (see MMC/2/LarmuthL/1/6).
