Administrative / Biographical History

LRCS Edinburgh 1814.

Miller was a general practitioner in Broughton, Manchester, in the mid nineteenth century. He was practicing as a surgeon in Manchester by 1833 and had retired by 1869. Miller was a member of MMS. According to his grandson C. Miller (of Exeter), Miller devised baking powder while experimenting in his laboratory (although the inventor of baking powder is generally believed to be Alfred Bird). His son took up the trade of making it and did very well.
