Frederick Craven Moore, 1871-1944.

Moore was born in Manchester and spent the whole of his professional career there. He graduated MB ChB in 1895 and was an assistant lecturer in bacteriology and pathology at Owens College Manchester. He was awarded the MD in 1898 with gold medal. In 1904 Moore was made honorary physician at Ancoats Hospital, where he later instituted a series of post-graduate lectures. In 1911 he became an honorary physician at MRI. During the First World War, he was a captain at the 2nd Western General Hospital. A very well-regarded teacher, Moore was professor of systematic medicine at the University of Manchester from 1925-9. He retired in 1929, and moved to East Grinstead, Sussex, where he cultivated orchids. Moore's medical specialism was gastro-enterology.
