May-Atkinson gained her medical education at the University of Manchester. She held resident appointments at Oldham Royal Infirmary and St Mary's Hospital Manchester. From 1916 to 1917, May-Atkinson was senior medical officer to the 52nd Epidemic Hospital on the Galician Front. She was later assistant medical officer to the massage and electrical department at MRI and house physician to Greengate Dispensary in Salford. May-Atkinson was medical officer for child welfare.
