Nicholas Philip Jones, b 1956.

Jones gained a BSc at St Andrew's University before studying medicine at Manchester, qualifying in 1981. He held ophthalmic appointments at Southampton before coming to Manchester as registrar in ophthalmology at the Royal Eye Hospital. Jones became senior registrar and honorary lecturer at the University of Manchester, and was later appointed consultant surgeon. Jones became FRCS (Edin) in 1986, and FRCOphth in 1989.
