Scope and Content

The narrative portions of Baxter's Autobiography (Rel. ii. 141-289) are contained here (ff 103-133) with the titles of documents to be added marked at appropriate places excepting the letter of Mr Gaches to Baxter as at Reliquiae Baxterianae p. 215 (Lutet, Paris, 5 April 1660). In addition to the many sections of narrative contained here are the following manuscript items: 'survey of sects' (ff 103-106); statement by Thomas Warmestry and Thomas Good, 20 Sept. 1653 (ff 106-108); material by John Durie not included in the Reliquiae (ff 109, 111); arguments on fundamentals (ff 113-114); Cf. Anne de La Tour d’Auvergne, Certain letters, 1660 (ff 118-121).

Note

Good and Warmestry had given support to Baxter in his schemes of conciliation and association of the various parties in Worcestershire during the 1650s but reneged on such co-operation after the Restoration.
