Scope and Content
Note
Sir George Barclay (c 1636–1710), a Roman Catholic, led a Jacobite assassination plot against King William III in 1696. The conspirators aimed to seize the king at Turnham Green in London on his returning from a hunting party. The plot was betrayed to the government, and nine members were executed, although Barclay himself escaped to France.
