Scope and Content

Certificate given verbally to Mr Roger Morrice of the state of a Religious Society, over which Mr Stubbs had been a year and a quarter the minister and of his character. Signed by Hen. Cantrall, John Erpe, Thomas Mather, Jonat. Webster. Perhaps this belonged to Morrice’s papers: ‘We whose names are under written thinking it fits did Volun [gap in paper] of Mr. Stubbs to Mr. Roger Morrice, by word of mouth, to the effect follow then at his desire redily committed it to writeinge.’ f 115r: ‘Hennory Cant, John Erpe, Thomas Mar, Jonat. Webster’

Note

Possibility that Mr Stubbs is the John Stubbs in DWL/RB/1/4 (Treatises v.186). He may also be the minister of John Street, Wolverhampton (1697?-1740?), as listed in the Surman Index.
