Baxter’s duty of propagating true religion against Spinoza and Hobbes

Scope and Content

17 arguments on propagating true religion against Spinoza and Hobbes, in Baxter's hand. This appears to be the paper returned to Baxter by John Tillotson in his letter of 2 June 1680 [Corr 1052].

Note

Baxter regarded Tillotson and Edward Stillingfleet as “moderate Men” with whom it would be possible to arrive at a means to accommodate the then dissenters in the Church of England (Corr 937) and in 1675 Tillotson and Baxter drafted a bill for comprehending the dissenters (Corr 967).
