Sir Francis Nethersole’s thoughts on the Solemn League and Covenant

Scope and Content

Remarks by Sir Francis Nethersole on two articles in the Solemn League and Covenant, which relate to the just defense against the forces raised by the King. f 416v: by Sir Fr: Nethersole.

Note

The Solemn League and Covenant of 1643 was an alliance between the English Parliament and the Scots whereby the Scottish forces agreed to join the fight against the King in the Civil War. In return Parliament agreed to establish the Church of England on a Presbyterian, rather than an episcopal basis. The Westminster assembly of divines was one result.
