Scope and Content

A Pindarique ode, 'Sacred to the Immortal Memory of the late Reverend and Excelent Divine, Mr Richard Baxter; (a name worthy of Eternal Veneration!) who haveing long lived the life of Faith, enter’d into the Saints everlasting rest, December. 8th 1691. in the 75th year, of his Age.' Two stanzas only of 36 and 40 lines; with a note at the end, stating that it was but a ‘taste’, and there was ‘about 10 stanzas more’. Directed as a letter to Nathaniel Manton, with postmark.‘Stanza the 1st. Well then, ‘tis but too true, that Fate’ f 398v: ‘Verses on Mr B.’s death To Mr Nathll Manton a Silke man at the signe of the 3 pigeons in the Poultry.’
