Scope and Content

Copies of two papers by King Charles II. The first arguing arguing a single church being the Roman Catholic. ‘The second paper’, strongly reprobating the Reformation in England. These papers are ‘universally supposed to have been given to him, as a compedius excuse for his embracing doctrines, which he was too idle to examine, too thoughtless to remember, and too sensible to have believed on reflection.’ (Walpole’s Royal Noble Authors of England, Edinburgh 1792, I, 50). Black records this treatise as written by the amanuensis of Roger Morrice. ff 204-5r: ‘The first Paper.’ ff 205v-207r: ‘The Second Paper.’
