Administrative / Biographical History
Mr J. Glynne Jones was a veteran solicitor and intimately connected for many years with legal and educational developments in the city of Bangor. His father, H. Lloyd Jones (d. 1903) was a solicitor before him; his brother, Mr W. Ashley Jones, has long borne the high reputation of being one of the most fruitfully benevolent gentlemen in Bangor.
One of Mr Glynne's sisters married Mr Prichard Williams, editor of Morus Kyffin's "Deffiniad y Ffydd" fod the Guild of Graduates, a second became the wife of the Rev. T. Gwynedd Roberts, a third became the wife of Dr R.W. Phillips, for many years Professor of Botany in the University College of North Wales.
Mr J. Glynne Jones is closely related to the Gwredog family and was at the forefront of the movement in Bangor to take full advantage of the Intermediate Eduation Act of 1889, especially in establishing the County School for Girls.
Mrs Glynne Jones (d. 1934) was in the front rank of lady educationalists in Wales and especially prominent in the movement for the higher education of girls. She was asked to give evidence before Royal Commissioners, and became (in 1910) an Assistant Commissioner (honorary) herself. She was for many years a member of the Governors of the County School for Girls. She was sister to Dr Mary Davies, both being daughters of William Davies (Mynorydd).
