Administrative / Biographical History

Shaw was a dental surgeon and was the first Dean of the Victoria Dental Hospital, Manchester. In 1886 he patented the Shaw Dental Engine, a mechanism for maneuvering dental drills. He was also a pioneer in the use of anaesthetics.
