Wright was educated at Owens College Manchester, and graduated in medicine in 1897. He became a lecturer in anatomy at Birmingham University, and moved to the Middlesex Hospital as lecturer in anatomy in 1905. Wright later became professor of anatomy at the London Hospital. He enjoyed a considerable reputation as an anatomist, being president of the Anatomical Section of the BMA in 1912, president of the Anatomical Society and Harveian Lecturer in 1933. He published widely on the history of anatomy, and played a major role in building up the London Hospital as a teaching school.
