Administrative / Biographical History

Powell White was educated at Cambridge University and St. Bartholomew's London. A pathologist, he came to Manchester in 1906 and began an association with Christie Hospital. In 1911 he was appointed honorary pathologist at the Christie Hospital. He also lectured on cancer at the University of Manchester. He was later director of Helen Swindells Cancer Research Laboratories at the University and was histologist to the Manchester Committee on Cancer. He published numerous paper on the study of cancer. In 1927 he published Principles of pathology. He was treasurer of the Pathological Society of Great Britain from its foundation.
