Administrative / Biographical History

A Richard Townley of Burnley gained his MD at Harderwyck in 1712. Townley was buried in Manchester on 19 February 1719. A Richard Townley of Townley, MD, who made a number of discoveries about optics, astronomy and the weather, was buried in Manchester in 1729. This may have been a different individual. There was also a Richard Townley of Manchester, bachelor of physic, whose goods were administered by his sister, Mary Bradshaw, in 1749.
