Shubsachs was born in Manchester on 3 September 1916 and was educated at Manchester Central High School and the University of Manchester. After qualifying, he held resident appointments at Stockport Royal Infirmary, Middlesborough General Hospital and Ancoats Hospital. He entered general practice in 1948, and was also clinical assistant to Manchester Ear Hospital from 1958. Shubsachs was later hospital medical practitioner at Withington Hospital and Altrincham General Hospital.
