Administrative / Biographical History

Ganed Thomas Roberts (Scorpion) ym 1816 yn Ninbych a mynychodd ysgol Michael Jones yn Llanuwchllyn cyn mynd yn fyfyriwr i Goleg Aberhonddu.

Bu'n weinidog gyda'r annibynnwyr yn Llanuwchllyn, Meirionydd ac yn symudodd i Newmarket, Sir Flint ym 1856 ac yna Llanrwst ym 1858. Roedd Scorpion yn un o brif lenorion Cymru yn ei ddydd. Pur afler ei wisg ydoedd, a'i feddwl yn wibiog bell yn aml, fel y tystia'r llu ystoriau a ddywedir amdano ar lafar gwlad.

Gwr a feddyliai y byd o Scorpion oedd W.R. Owen, brawd-yng-nghyfraith Dr. J.E. Lloyd a thrysorydd Coleg y Gogledd am flynyddoedd. Ysgrifennodd W.R. Owen dair erthygl ar Scorpion i'r Dysgedydd.

Thomas Roberts was also known by his pseudonym, Scorpion. He was born in 1816 in Denbigh and attended the school of Michael Jones in Llanuwchllyn before becoming a student at Brecon Memorial College.

As a congregational minister, he served at Llanuwchllyn, Merioneth and later moved to Newmarket, Flintshire in 1856 and then Llanrwst, Denbighshire in 1858. He was one of the great writers of his day, contributing articles to Y Dysgedydd and Yr Haul. He died in 1887.
