A very instructive record of education in a Church School under the old order. Undoubtedly, the school was prosperous and successful under Mrs Jane Roberts (1864-1867). The reports of the Diocesan Inspector for the early years are couched in exceptionally high terms.
There was continual migration and return from the National School to the British School. Nationals who returned to the bosom of the old school had to pay a fine of 3d, later brought down to 2d. Occasionally, pupils left for a "Methodist Dame School at the Port". The vicar's visits are faithfully recorded; so are the hopelessly heterogeneous holidays, which were given on all kinds of occasions - regattas, thanksgivings, Methodist preaching meetings.
Occasionally, there was trouble with the Pupil Teacheds who seemed to be fatally given to long terms of sickness; simetimes children were dismissed similarly for "wild and disorderly conduct".
There are a number of lists of pupils which may prove of some advantage to researchers into Amlwch local history
