Scope and Content

It is not the original, but a careful and clear copy made by Mr. Henry Barber of Bangor, solicitor, and co-author (with Sir Henry Lewis) of the History of Friars' School, Bangor, 1901. Mr. Barber (ii) thinks that the traveller, whose name is unknown, made the journey for business purposes, probably to draw up family settlements for the Cyffdy family near Llanrwst. He affects nautical terms throughout, is impressed by the inordinate number of harpers and fiddlers he heard, is very hard on the habits and indolence of the Welsh and spells Welsh words atrociously. Probably pp. 17-23 are the most interesting, with an account of the ascent of the Great Orme, of the excellence of Welsh mutton, and their references to the Llandudno copper mines.
