arranged by the late Rev. Daniel Rowlands, M.A, of the Normal College, Bangor. He took enormous interest in politics as a Gladstonian liberal. These cuttings cover, in the main, the years 1885-7, which witnessed the great split in the liberal party over Irish Home Rule, and give a good idea of the eloquence and vituperation that accompanied it. There are a few items of topical interest in the early pages - the proceedings of the Bangor Menai Society (3-5); the official opening of the U.C.N.W. Wales in October, 1884 (6-8). Quite the most piquant cutting is found on p.46, which tells of Mr. Marchant Williams being put forward as Radical candidate for East Finsbury in October 1885, which sounds somewhat strange in the ears of those who remember him as a particularly outspoken Unionist. At the time he was Inspector under the London School Board.
