Mrs. Patty Clough was the great-great-grandmother of Mr. Clough Williams-Ellis the distinguished architect of Brondanw and London, and a leading personality in the movement for the preservation of rural Wales. Ranging in date from 1786 to 1838, in which year she died (July 3). Mrs . Patty Clough was a Butler of Warminghurst Park in Sussex and married to Richard Clough, squire of Glan-y-wern and Plas Clough (Pedigrees, 329); for the Williams-Ellis connection, see Pedigrees, 210. The diary is not very exciting; it merely describes rounds of social visits, refers to reading and music societies, and supplies many details of births, marriages, and deaths (e.g., the death of Mrs. Piozzi, 1 May, 1821, p.9, and cp. Pedigrees, 222).
