Copied from Order Book 1 at the Shirehall, Brecon, March, 1905, by John Lloyd. 2+6+448 pp., with a separate index for each reign, dividing 1689-1702 into the joint reign of William III and Mary, and that of William by himself. Interesting conspectus of Quarter Sessions work and procedure, especially relating to roads, bridges, and the settlement of the poor. The orders are equally informing over Dissenters from the Church of England, how keen was the persecution in the early period of James II's reign (see the long list from 43 parishes in 1685-6, about 260 persons, including Protestants and papists, pp.28-36), and how it petered out under the two Declarations of Indulgence issued by the King in 1687-8. In William's reign come the first licences (or certificates) issued to Dissenting ministers under the Toleration Act of 1689.
