Scope and Content

[front page is totally covered in writing going in both directions]

My dearest May, We were so glad to get your letter the other day. It is truly delightful here, & we are revelling in all the beauties of this little place. How you would have loved to have been with us this morning on Pentire Point watching the magnificent sea. It was a splendid sight, the sea as blue as it could be, & such a bright sun. We both made sketches. Tom's is very pretty, mine isn't finished yet. We take our lunch out every day & stay out hours. I am getting so sunburnt which is very becoming. This afternoon we have been to tea with Miss James. What a dear she is. We took in some [soup][& Tom says] Miss James made us leave them with her, as she wants us to go in again. My friend Evelyn Palms is with her now - isn't it odd she should be next door? She was to have come to my wedding but couldn't as she was coming to Cornwall. She went for a walk with us after tea & is coming again tomorrow morning. She is a nurse in the London Hospital & lived at Louthborough years ago. Ellen Frances has just glided in with some narcisse. She thought we should like to look at these a little while. She is most comical, she does look so odd when she is ready to go for a long walk -with a stick & a cap & she jumps over the little wall at the bottom of the garden. She takes tremendous walks. We infinitely prefer 'Church' Frances -but they are really both very nice & make us extremely comfortable. Miss James wants us to thank Casssie for her nice letter. She wd. write herself but she doesn't feel equal to writing anything but business letters. She sends her love. I will put some flowers in this letter. We picked these in the wood by the Gunnel & the ___ near the Point. We are as happy as we can be. Tom is such a darling husband. With my best love to all

Ever dearest May Your loving sister Lizzie.
